There’s this little stretch around the water at Ballannette that I call Butterfly Ally. This Cabbage White is my first butterfly photograph of the season, taken at the end of May.

These are 5 Spot Burnett Moths that I spotted in Herm Island in June. Here in the Isle of Man, I’ve only ever seen the 6 Spot version.

Peacock
I know they are supposed to be common but here in the Isle of Man, I’ve only ever seen 3 of these stunningly beautiful butterflies. Close up in real life, this one just looked like an oil painting at Ballannette yesterday.
Red Admiral nectar: tree sap
I was strolling through Candie Gardens in Guernsey a couple of weeks ago and I spotted a little butterfly frenzy. At least 10 Red Admirals were hovering around the bark of a tree. I didn’t realise at the time that they were attracted by the sap of the old tree.
