Weekly photo challenge: In the background

This face is displayed on the reflective external walls of the Liverpool Echo Arena and is part of an exhibition at the arena called “So Close”. It’s an initiative to promote the museums that are close to the arena, by displaying images of items from the collections as “breakouts” on the external walls. This face, which I photographed just this weekend, promotes the International Slavery Museum.
Gannets again…back for more
The greedy gannets were unusually close to the shore this evening
so I could get much closer than my previous attempt in capturing these aerodynamic Concordes.
They moved at such speed, my brain and camera couldn’t match the pace and I failed to catch the impressive twist and turn and forceful impact on the water. Practising is fun though!

Last sunlight
Earlier this evening I walked around the harbour to catch the last of the sunshine before it disappeared for the day until tomorrow (hopefullly). This goose must have had the same idea.
Undecided
The weather has been very strange this evening. Heavy rain, then bright sunshine, rain again, dark clouds. Eerie!

Gannets
I’m in awe of the gannets that can dive from a height of 30 metres, achieving speeds of 100 km/h as they strike the water to catch fish. It’s the first time I’ve attempted to photograph them as they fish further out than my telephoto lens allows to produce quality images but they captivated me anyway yesterday as they circled the bay searching for their prey. When they spot a potential catch in mid-flight, they seem to twist their body quickly, almost like a dancer and then invert, streamline and make a huge splash.
