At least a couple of times a year we like to take the Mountain railway to the top of Snaefel and wander back down. It probably takes over 2 hours to saunter down and the ground can can be quite rugged and uneven.

Bleak
There’s been snow on higher ground on the island but it hasn’t yet reached the lower levels of Laxey. Dark, moody skies only and I can’t remember seeing any sun over the past few days.
The Ayres
The Ayres is a stretch of remote, bleak coastline with sand dunes mixed with coarse grass, located at the most northern part of the Isle of Man. My last visit was in September when I spotted quite a few Sanderlings and Ringed Plover.

It’s been a grey, drizzly day today but with snow capping the mountain, I had a wander over the hills by Axnfel which overlooks Snaefell Mountain.

Kouloura in Corfu
A good 20 minute walk from Kalami brings you to Kouloura. A delightful little fishing village with quiet beaches, stunning views overlooking Albania and delicious authentic Greek food served at the friendly Taverna Kouloura.
Wild mountain goats
Whilst walking along the beach this morning, I spotted something moving on the hillside and I soon realised that the wild goats have returned to Laxey. Light and visibility has been poor today so apologies for the quality of the images. Hopefully, they’ll stick around for a few days as it’s one of my challenges to get a good photograph of the goats. This may mean that I have to walk along the pathway in better light but I am a chicken. I posted some photographs in August last year when I last spotted them. I suspect they have been around more frequently but are really well camouflaged.
New Years Day – Axnfel
The view from Ballannette showed the mountain in light so I took a 5 minute drive into the hills to another of my favourite locations, Axnfel.
