Those are great – you must have a great zoom as I know herons are never very tame! Just startled one today and it flew right past my head – shame I didn’t have a camera and quick reactions!

I’ve been quite close to this heron a few times recently but the light has never been right. It was raining when I took this photograph(Wednesday this week) and I probably could have got closer but the rain shortened my walk and sent me home. I think this is a young heron as I’ve seen one with a larger one the rocks at the far end of the beach and they were both fishing at dusk. I’d missed the boat on the good light though. I’ve started looking for them now though and can normally to find at least one of them somewhere around the shore or harbour – just never in the right kind of light!
