Happy New Year!
The Laxey red telephone box could be granted a last-minute reprieve from being removed from the village.
A sign was placed in the phone box in December advising that it would be removed, along with a few others dotted around the island. The boxes could remain if the Local Authorities step in to pay for ongoing maintenance.
For now, the Laxey phone box remains in situ but its future is under consideration.
Watch this space! Er, I don’t mean an empty space where the box is. It won’t be the same without this part of our heritage. Please save it!
How sad, we have lost ours too and believe me it is like eradicating a part of history. I hope they will leave it if only as a momento of times past.
It’s sad that yours has gone already. I’m all for moving on with change but there’s just something sentimental about them.
I agree – it should be saved!
Thanks Jackie
Excellent photo – would make a great Christmas card 🙂
I really hope they don’t get rid of it – the old ones are far superior to the new ones!
Carol.
Thanks Carol
Happy New Year to you
Jackie
We lost all our old red phone boxes in Australia many years ago. They were vandalised badly.
I can well imagine how they’re such an iconic statement on a small island such as yours, Jackie.
By the way, Happy New Year to you – hope 2014 is a good one for you.
Thanks Vicki. I wish you a very happy New Year too!
Jackie
Many end up here in the US . . . restaurant novelties! I hope you can keep yours!
Thanks.Don’t tell our Local Authority. It will be on Ebay as fast as you can hear your coins drop in an old phone box.
Lovely picture and such a shame that these old boxes are disappearing. Our horrible modern version was removed a couple of years ago, so nothing at all in our village. The next village down though is still hanging on to theirs ….
Thanks Noeline. Still hanging on…
